Thank Heavens For Natural Remedies For Constipation!

The jury still seems to be out on the benefits of natural alternative medicine. Many people swear by it and talk positively about how effective it can be, while others dismiss it as pure quackery in favour of modern medicine. Some argue that modern medicine is no replacement for traditional approaches that have been practiced for thousands of years. Regardless of the arguments for and against, one very effective application of natural medicines seem to be natural remedies for constipation. In my experience I have had more long term success with natural remedies for constipation than over-the-counter and prescription medications.

There are many different natural remedies for constipation. Many of the more basic remedies simply require an adjustment to your diet. A few years back I had a serious case of constipation. It turns out that my college diet of junk food and beer was playing havoc on my system. At first I tried laxative pills which worked short term, relieving me for a while, but usually the next day I would be constipated again and feeling worse than before. A close friend of mine recommended that I talk to my doctor about natural remedies for constipation.

My doctor suggested that I try the BRAT diet. The BRAT diet is one of the leading natural remedies for constipation, the letters BRAT stand for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. These basic foods will not irritate your stomach and help the digestive system go about its job properly. I have to admit that it did take a few days for the BRAT diet to start to work, the first couple of which were pretty uncomfortable, but in the end after eating healthily the positive effects were long term. The advice from my friend and doctor to try one of the natural remedies for constipation turned out to be very good advice indeed.

This is just one of the natural remedies for constipation. My doctor also recommended some others that would provide a bit more immediate relief, but weren’t as long lasting as the BRAT diet. I decided that I had already put up with weeks of discomfort so a couple more days couldn’t be too bad.

At the end of the day, different treatments work more effectively for different people and there are a lot of factors that need to be considered. If you aren’t having much luck with a modern medicine approach, I encourage you to try one of the many natural remedies for constipation - it may just work.

The Hidden Benefits Of An Authentic Looking Cop Costume

I was amazed at the variety of get-ups I saw last Halloween when I took my neice out trick-or-treating for a few hours. The kids can’t wait to get dressed up each year which is interesting, but I’m equally as interested in checking out all the fun and unique costumes you see when you’re out and about. This year a real stand out for me was a young lady wearing a cop costume. At first I thought she was the real thing, she had me completely fooled. I guess it comes down to the personality of the person wearing the costume and this lady’s personality really came out through her cop costume. She had everyone nervously obeying her every command. Even when they realised she was just another person dressed up for halloween, everyone still treated her with respect. That’s the sort of response I want to get out of my future costumes!

After talking to her for a while, she told me that it hadn’t all been fun and games. Earlier in the night she walked past the local high school wearing her cop costume and some young punks got smart to her and threw an empty plastic bottle at her. Funnily enough she pretended to radio for back up and then chase after them and they ran off, haha. Talk about gutsy. Or maybe the cop costume gave her some dutch courage.

It re-ignited an old passion of mine from my childhoold. I used to watch the cop show “CHiPs” with my family every week. At the time Ponch and John were the epitome of cool and I remember all the guys at school wanting be cops when they grew up, or at least trying to dress like them in the mean time. I never did find out where to get an authentic looking cop costume, so I asked the lady where she got hers from. It turns out she spent a lot of time browsing through online costume shops looking for a decent costume and ended up finding the perfect one. She did tell me what the website was where she found it, but after heading home I completely forgot!

Anyway, before next halloween I plan on getting a cop costume for myself - you never know, I may end up meeting that lady again and we can pretend we’re partners :)

Don’t be boring when it comes to Fancy Dress Costumes

I love fancy dress parties. They give me a chance to express myself and everyone is very competitive and wants to have the best of the fancy dress costumes. The only thing I don’t like is if someone turns up wearing their street clothes. It’s like saying it doesn’t apply to them, they are above such things and are important people who are too busy to bother with such trifles. It really annoys me when everyone else has put in the effort.

The best party I ever went to was a science fiction themed party. People really went to town, with mostly hand made fancy dress costumes that were completely bizarre. It was like a convention of aliens or that scene in Star Wars when they’re all sitting in the alien’s bar.“We all trooped in to the pub before going to the party and got a stunned reaction.” I have a friend who has one leg and he turned up in a costume that had four arms. No other fancy dress costumes could beat that! Best of all, he had gone to the party on the bus. We all trooped in to the pub before going to the party and got a stunned reaction. We were a bit of a fire hazard, having used so much hair spray trying to style our hair into wacky styles.

The most popular themed party at the moment seems to be pirates. This is because of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean movies. It’s a great excuse to wave a cutlass around and have a stuffed parrot glued to your shoulder. Men doing their Johnny Depp impressions in their fancy dress costumes can say the most outrageous things because they’re in character. That’s the terrific thing about fancy dress costumes, you can say and do things you wouldn’t dream of ordinarily. It’s like those old movies with the set piece of a masked ball. There is intrigue in spades because we are led to believe no one is recognized behind their flimsy mask!

I prefer more inventive fancy dress than the tired old subjects. It doesn’t take much imagination to throw a doctors and nurses or a cowboys and Indians party. There’s a good episode of Frasier in which Frasier hosts a party at which the guests are invited to come in the guise of their hero. He of course comes dressed as Sigmund Freud and is disgusted at Roz’s choice of Wonder Woman. I’ve thought about throwing a similar bash myself. It would certainly make for some bizarre fancy dress costumes. My hero however is Mahatma Gandhi, and I don’t really want to carry trays of nibbles round, wearing my loin cloth and wire rimmed glasses. My husband’s hero is Gandalf, the Wizard from Lord of the Rings. At least we’d have fireworks!

Why it’s so easy to purchase books online

Are you a dedicated book freak, one of those people who simply can’t start the day without a cup of Joe and a chapter or two of your latest reading material? Some of us, desperate for something to read, may grab that cooking magazine, promising a taco you won’t soon forget or a heavenly pumpkin cheesecake. This type of reading gourmet is fully aware of the information available on the net. Sooner or later, you’re lured in to the world of books, and all they have to offer. Suddenly, you’re aware of the opportunity to purchase books online.

Whatever your subject of curiosity may be, you’ll find that purchasing books online is the doorway to heaven. Whatever your dream, a book has been written to help you along the way. Most online book sellers organize their subjects in a way designed to allow you to quickly zero in on specialized aspects of any given topic. “Large online sellers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders […] are usually very quick to deliver.” For example, do you have a big problem with carpet stains? Do you want to know more about AIDS? Are you fed up with conventional medical care and want to look into alternative treatments? Do you want to re-create that fantastic chocolate croissant you had in Paris? Do you want to know the secrets of New Orleans gumbo? Do you want to know how to help yourself to manage diabetes?

Take my word for it, there is a book or booklet you can find to resolve your curiosity. The “purchase books online” concept is easily executed, requiring only a debit or credit card. Large online sellers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders rely heavily on click-throughs, well-organized pages and alternative offerings of related books to make it easy and tempting for you to purchase books online. These booksellers are usually very quick to deliver. Your books may arrive the next day. It’s in the booksellers interest to make you a satisfied customer, returning to again purchase books online at their site.

If you decide to purchase books online, you’ll soon discover another advantage. Most online book sellers discount the price of a book anywhere from 10 to 20%, which can really add up to some substantial savings. Online book stores also may offer “bundled” offers, where you receive 30 to 35% off if you buy the companion book at the same time. Online book sellers don’t have the overhead of the brick and mortar bookseller, so they can afford these discounts to customers who purchase books online.

You can just as easily browse the virtual aisles when shopping the online bookstore, without the crowds. Don’t forget to check out the “bargain book” sections while you’re visiting.

My Favourite Bob Dylan CD

Anyone who appreciates good music that carries profound messages should own at least one Bob Dylan CD. This artist is a true master of songwriting and performing. His songs span generations and it is impossible to find a comprehensive collection on just one Bob Dylan compact disc. However, you can get a good start on your collection with just one purchase.

I am a big fan of this talented musician. Many say that he doesn’t have the best singing voice in the world and I agree but there is more to singing that the tonal quality of the singer’s voice. This is apparent once you listen to any Bob Dylan CD. I like to compare this artist to Johnny Cash for a few reasons.

Johnny Cash had an unusual quality to his voice but once he sang a song, he made it his own. Even though Cash wasn’t really a songwriter, he had a way of recreating the composition through his singing. If you listen closely to a Bob Dylan CD you will find that he makes each song speak to the listener with a profound message.

“I like to compare this artist to Johnny Cash for a few reasons…”

His messages have changed over the years and I guess that this is to be expected. His earlier songs appeal to the peace-loving generation from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Some songs that you may find on a Bob Dylan CD that appeal to this sentiment include “Blowin’ in the Wind” which was covered by another band.

In fact, many of the songs found on a Bob Dylan CD compilation will include tunes covered by other artists. Dylan is first and foremost a songwriter, not a performer. However, his presentation and quality of tone can’t be overlooked. He had to start recording to appease his many fans.

The Essential Bob Dylan CD is a compilation of his hits. However, this contains only two compact discs. This is not nearly enough space to cover four decades of work. This collection does make a pretty good start, though. If you are an avid Dylan fan or even if you want to become familiar with the artist, you might want to try the Essential compilation.

After you become familiar with this classic artist you will probably want to delve deeper into his collection of works. There are plenty of Bob Dylan CD choices available and you are sure to be pleased with the songs if you like the compilation.

One of the best Dylan songs is “Things Have Changed” from the Wonder Boys soundtrack. You really can’t fully appreciate the depth of the lyric until you become familiar with his portfolio. Once you own a Bob Dylan CD, you are sure to be buying others in the future.

How Accurate is a Personality Profile Test?

Everyone has taken a personality test at some point in their life. People love them as novelties. Whether it is the Myers Briggs personality profile test or some free personality test meant to indicate what character on a popular TV show you most resemble, they are everywhere. People love to think about what categories they might fit into and to compare with their friends. Not only does it show whether or not you are accepted, but it can also show what is unique about you.

Nevertheless, personality profile tests are used for a more important purpose quite often. More and more, industry likes to use a personality profile test to determine whether or not you are a fit for the job. This sounds alarming to someone who has never had one, but it is absolutely true. I know because I have been subject to them before.

“The creepy thing is, I think that the personality profiles cost me the job.”

The first time I had to take a personality profile test, I was so resentful that I decided that I would not answer correctly. Something as absurd as a personality profile test cannot be a true measure of who I am, and so it probably would not understand that I was lying. I gave the personality profile test the answers that I thought it wanted. I didn’t really like working in teams, I was resentful of my bosses, and I did not believe in the mission of the company. I didn’t want this personality profile test to find this out, so I pretended to be a real team player.

The creepy thing is, I think that the personality profiles cost me the job. I did outstanding in the interview, did very well on all of the skills assessment tests that I was given, and in general made a great impression. Nevertheless, I did not get the job. I think that the personality profile testing was designed to catch you in a lie.

I was sort of put in a Catch-22 situation. Whether or not I tried to fake out the personality profile test, I was bound to lose. If it found out my true personality, they probably would not want to hire me because I did not fit in with the company. If I tried to cover it up, however, it would catch me lying. It really seemed unfair to me. Wasn’t there a time when I could get a job based on possessing the necessary skills? What business is it of there is whether or not I like to work in teams!

Big Screen TV Entertainment Centers: The forgotten extra-cost in buying a big screen TV

A few years back, pretty much all entertainment centers were the same. Because TVs hadn’t gotten as big as they are these days, it was easy to come up with a design that could fit all of them. All of that has changed now, and nowadays it seems you need to buy new furniture everytime you upgrade your digital equipment. Big screen TV entertainment centers have to be specifically designed to fit the modern TV.

Recently, I bought a home theater screen. I measured the big screen TV entertainment center from my most recent TV – the one I was getting rid of it. It was a plasma TV, and it was of a similar size and shape. I thought I would be able to fit the new TV, but I was wrong. Every entertainment center for big screen TVs is different. In this case, the footprint was off. The thing was just a little bit too wide from the front to back to fit in big screen TV entertainment Centers like the one I had. It almost did, and I spent an hour trying to find a way to negotiate the last few inches. After all, the difference between fitting and not fitting – although it was only 2 or 3 inches – was going to cost me another 600 dollars. In the end I lost, and had to cough up the dough.

I’m amazed at how expensive big screen TV entertainment centers have become. I never dreamed that they would cost as much as they do - in reality they’re not much more than a simple cabinet. Most of them are not even made out of wood anymore. They are certainly not handcrafted, so what is the reason behind the big expense? Whatever it is, big screen TV entertainment centers cost a fortune. It wouldn’t have been so bad if I’d been budgeting for it, but I hadn’t. I ended up spending all the money that I wanted to spend on the television screen. The big screen TV entertainment centers were an additional expense that I had not anticipated.

In the end, I had to temporarily give up the idea of big screen TV entertainment centers. Instead, I simply put the TV on a heavily reinforced table. I just could not find anything that fit the TV that I had! It was that overwhelmingly massive! I figure that in another six months, I will look at big screen TV entertainment centers again and try to find something that works. In the meantime, however, I am happy watching the TV from its new resting position on the table.

“But Wait - There’s More!” - What’s the deal with those As Seen on TV products?

So you’re lounging on the sofa or recliner again; just another moment of relaxation in a typical day. Suddenly one of those ads or infomercials pops on, rambling about some wonderful gimmicky product. Wow, what a surprise! My personal favorite is the Oxy Clean one. The bearded man always comes out screaming. He must assume that his microphone is broken, the way he yells into the camera. Or, maybe he’s just that enthused about the product? You’ve got to love these “as seen on TV products.” I’ll even bet that you’ve caved in and purchased one at some point or another. You know, just to see if the hype was legitimate. I know I have.

It’s sort of funny, but I’ve actually seen “as seen on TV” stores that only sell as seen on TV products. What a business they must have going on. As I stepped back to examine this bizarre store, I was in amazed. Everything looked like a bunch of boxed up junk. In no way did I want to enter and purchase anything. Now I fully understand why everything is only 19.95. One has to wonder about the profit percentage they make. This is the key to all these infomercial products. Most of them are so easily produced and packaged, that the company makes a quick killing. Imagine the potential customers. We all have televisions and most people are sitting in front of them on a daily basis. How many of us snatch the phone when we see these “miracle solution” products for a mere 20 bucks? I’m guessing quite a few.

The business of as seen on TV products is huge to say the least. Whether it’s some new grinder/mincer/dicer, or maybe a perfect tool that slices an entire pizza in one whack, folks around the world over are intrigued. They get excited by the notion of convenience at a low cost. After all, most of these products offer a money back guarantee. I can’t really argue with that logic. If you truly despise the as seen on TV products, you can apparently send them back for your cash. Just don’t go too crazy with these gimmicks, or pretty soon you won’t have any cash left in the bank.
